Starcraft Tournament

Date: Jan. 25th

Time: 6:30 - 9:30 pm (depending on the number of people signing up, the tournament may have to conclude the following week)

Where: BV-461, computer lab

Tournament Details:
The version of Brood Wars to be played is v1.16.1. It will be 1v1, will be a preliminary round after which players will be put into "winner" and "loser" brackets. Once these brackets have been set, the each bracket will be ladder style single elimination, with the final match being played between the top player from each bracket. During the preliminary round, each match will have a 30 minute limit. Also, the first 16 people to sign up will be ensured a spot, the rest will be put on a waiting list, due to tournament logistics. As well, if the tournament is not concluded by 9:30 pm, it will be continued the following week.

In-Game Rules:
Allowed to use: Rushes, Plague on interceptor, Units pressed through, Drops to defuse mines, A bug which allows your units to remain stacked while moving/attacking, Mineral walk, Manner Pylon, Lurker hold position, Observer Over turret
Not Allowed to Use: Flying drones and templars, Terran sliding buildings, «Gas walk» to get through blocked entrances or ramps (Incredibly common bug, using a shift click on has near opponent’s blocked entrance to slide through any possible unit or building wall.), Use of these bugs will be punished with total reverse of the game (if abuser won).

Maps:
The Preliminary round will be played on Lost temple, the tournament maps will be Tau Cross, Othello, Lost Temple, Python, Gaia. After the first round of the tournament (so 8 players remaining), the maps will be selected by an exec (randomly drawn), to prevent conflict over map choices.
*Note: no custom maps will be used to ensure fairness to all competitors

Fee:
Free for members, $2 for non-members

We have 6 people signed up. We can run the tournament with 8 but we are going to cap it at 16 people because of time constraints.

William is right.
Perhaps Python would be a better map setting for the preliminary matches (at least).
Python is basically the same as LT but without the corner islands and highlands. It is a lot more balanced.

Just a thought.

yes you're allowed to switch races between matches (i.e. play terran one round, zerg the next etc.), but both players choose at the same time, and no switching after you see your opponent's race. also, the maps are what they are; keep in mind that the maps are going to be selected through random draw, so lost temple may not even be selected

It is still possible to enter the tournament. We actually only had one more spot left. So if you want to enter please send an email to vgssquared@gmail.com with you Full Name, Email and whether you are a member or not. Please note, if you are not a member, there is a $2 entry fee. Also, please include if you are available the next Monday (February 1) in case the tournament were to run long. This is merely a pre-caution and may not actually happen.

Of course, all people are welcome to watch!
